Today while I was at a restaurant in my hometown called “Boca Loca”, I was talking to my sister and she suggested I start a blog because I’m always taking pictures of food. This idea came to me a while ago but I never had the initiative or guts to start it. I’ve gone to this restaurant before but today I decided to go because they had a “cinco de mayo” special. The special is only three days long, which is a shame because I’m crazy about Mexican food. Before I begin to talk about the place and the food I want to explain a little what “Cinco de Mayo” is.  A lot of people confuse this day with  Mexico’s Independence Day which is on September 16, to be honest for the longest time so did I. The fifth of May commemorates the Mexican army’s 1862 victory over France at the Battle of Puebla during the Franco-Mexican War which took place 1861-1867. The Mexican forces were outnumbered (4,500 vs. 6,040) yet after being attacked, they suffered far fewer losses (83 Mexicans died, 462 French died). Talk about beating the odds! A relatively minor holiday in Mexico, in the United States “Cinco de Mayo” has evolved into a celebration of Mexican culture and heritage, particularly in areas with large Mexican-American populations. “Cinco de Mayo” traditions include parades, mariachi music performances and street festivals in cities and towns across Mexico and the United States.

Upon entering the place made me feel happy haha. It was decorated in a Mexican theme. They put colorful table cloths on all the tables and “sombreros”, and had mariachi type of music playing. I’m glad they took the time to change it a bit for this celebration. We were immediately greeted and shown to our chairs. Two menus were given to us, the everyday one and the Mexican one. All the margaritas were $5. I had a “parcha” (passion fruit) margarita. It was good but a little strong. Two types of nachos were offered; nachos Chihuahua or the Acapulco. I had the nachos Acapulco which included a mix of melted cheeses, ground beef, pico de gallo (mix of tomato, onion and cilantro), guacamole, and sour cream. It was really good. My mother was in love with them. Both my mother and I for dinner had fajitas. Hers was with steak and chicken mine where just steak. The meat was seasoned well, a little too much onion for my taste but all together it was delicious. I will definitely go next year. My sisters went with the original menu. My younger sis ordered the Chaufa Boca Loca which is fried rice with chicken, bacon, vegetables and oriental sauces. She really liked it. And they served it in a huge bowl. The bowl could be eaten between two people in my opinion. My older sis got the Ceviche which is basically a mis of sea food.

I recommend this place because it’s a mix of different Latin American food. They offer food from Colombia, Peru, Dominican Republic, Argentina, Brazil, Panama, Puerto Rico (where I’m from :D), Argentina and Mexico. It has really diverse food which I find it is easier to please everyone plus it’s something different. It is a little pricey but I believe it’s worth it. Both times I’ve gone have been a success and I will definitely go again.
